Karen's Travel Guide

Latin America

Although Latin America is full of beautiful and interesting places to visit, I personally am more interested in the rain forest and ancient ruins. These are the three locations that caught my attention.

Palenque, Mexico

This Mayan ruin lies in the dense jungle of the Usumacinta Mountains. Palenque was built during the middle to late classical period of the 6th to 9th century A.D. as the center of art, religion, and astronomy. It is one of the best preserved and majestic preserved Mayan sites.

Expedition up the Amazon Rainforest, Brazil

Traveling the Amazon Rainforest is one of the worlds greatest adventures. Many river expeditions are led by experienced guides, something which I think is extremely important especially since the rainforest is so large that it covers territory belongs to nine nations.

Machu Picchu, Peru

Machu Picchu's strategic and isolated high altitude setting coupled with its mysterious signifies in the ancient Inca universe make this "lost city" one of the worlds most beautiful and haunting destinations. After the Inca abandoned the site, the 100-acre complex of temples, warehouses, houses, irrigation terraces, and stairs remained hidden from outsides until the Americans rediscovered it.
